Discovering the strengths and weaknesses of every student in order to understand which form of multiple intelligences they will use. Also, since students learn, retain and understand information at different rates, it is important to differentiate instruction to fit the needs of these students. Through this philosophy my goal would be to challenge the bored kids while scaffolding and building the confidence of the slower learners. To accomplish a sense of growing understanding, I would try to utilize the individualized learning "hooks" that each student uses to become engaged in learning. More often, these learning “hooks” will be composed of simplistic modes of thought that are used to connect ideas back to its central theme. I think that these simplistic themes are directly connected to ideas that students can relate to in everyday life, and are ideas or concepts that they can distinguish outside of the classroom. These real life associations are also directly connected to an emphasis on activity based learning instead of lecture/ textbook learning. By engaging students in activities rather than utilizing solely a linguistic or spatial approach to learning, I think that more opportunities for retention of information are made possible. And most importantly, this will ultimately allow students to enjoy class and have fun.
